The Last of What's Left

The children gathered solemnly like shadows from the Bible to divide among themselves the last of what was left, which was barely nothing compared to what had once been, but it was more than being dead, so they had been taught for centuries.

They each took their portion which could only be counted with a microscope, and then went silently in different directions, never to see each other again.

There was no reason to.

They left behind an empty place where everything had once been.

LE RESTE DE CE QU’IL RESTE

Les enfants se rassemblèrent solennellement comme des ombres venues de la Bible pour se répartir le reste de ce qu’il restait, soit à peine rien comparé à ce qui avait été, mais c’était plus que d’être mort, comme ils en avaient été instruits depuis des siècles.

Ils prirent chacun leur part qui ne pouvait être comptée que par un microscope, et s’en allèrent en silence dans différentes directions, ne devant jamais se revoir.

Il n’y avait aucune raison pour.

Ils laissèrent derrière eux un endroit vide où tout avait autrefois été.
